Don't call 911…

because in many areas, 911 routes you to a switchboard for your area, and it may take much longer for police or emergency crews to respond to your call.

We had a Berkeley Police office speak to us last week about safety and how to  since we’ve had a few vehicles broken into while parked outside of our office.

What she urged us to do, is to look up the phone # for your local police department and program it into your phone for emergencies instead of calling 911.

Also, the officer told us that when it comes to valuables that we have such as computers, cell phones, ipods, bikes, we should note down their serial numbers  and put them in a safe place. The reason for doing this she said, was so that when things get stolen, you can report the serial numbers to the police, and if and when they recover stolen items, they can go through their database of people who have reported stolen items and get them returned to them. She said that they have dozens of bikes and electronics at the station, but don’t know who they belong to, so they can’t return them.

Just a few words of wisdom I thought that I’d pass along.
