Sockhop 2009 hosted by Funkanometry SF
This past weekend, Tammy, Vic and I went to watch our good friend/SV teammate Barbara dance with her crew De La Femme at Sockhop 2009 hosted by Funkanometry SF, which is under the Funkbrella Dance Academy that does a lot for the dance community in the Bay Area. It was funny that coincidentally the row that we were sitting in ended up being Barb’s fan club row, as I think we were sitting with a ton of her group members from MK Modern at UC Davis who were out to support! There was mad love for her in the crowd.
On a cool side note, Barb is working in Palo Alto at Togetherville, working towards improving online safety for youngsters, check them out! You can also find them on the links section on this blog.
I accidentally (stupidly) deleted the video that I took on my camera, so I below is a video that I stole YouTube user beisners , who dances with the Funksters, where she gets the whole dance. She also captured most of the performances so check out her channel for more vids from the show.
The Funkbrella Finale:
Guess who else was there! Kaba Modern from UC Irvine, made famous (more famous than they already were in the dance world) by MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew Season 1. My sister’s good friend Yosuke and his sister Hikari who both went to our high school performed with Kaba at the Sockhop and were so kickass! I still remember them tearing up school fashion shows and homecomings back in the day. I only caught the beginning on my camera, but you can probably find a full version on YouTube as well.
