Hiking at Tilden Park, my weekend, and my stock picks

Over the course of the last two weeks I think that I’ve watched almost all of the gay and lesbian movies in the “Watch Instantly” section on Netflix including the foreign ones. Let me just say, that it takes a lot of effort since you have to actually read the subtitles. I would be doing multiple things at once, and then be like “Oh shoot,  I just missed 10 minutes of the movie” and then have to rewind back so that I can read what they were saying.

Anyway, this weekend was filled with:

1) Running errands (slowly)…by this I mean that took my time doing my errands. Sometimes I just feel so rushed all the time and feel the need to zip through grocery stores, but this weekend I was like “eh” and felt ok just standing in front of the million types of hummus at Trader Joes before deciding on which one I wanted (which of course was the same as I always get).

I even waited in line for 15 minutes at Lucky to buy 2 lottery tickets..I WAS SO CLOSE, sorta. So, what I do is that I usually pick jersey numbers of my teammates from both SV and Pomona-Pitzer…sometimes I’ll put Lynbrook too. I hit 2 out of 5 jersey numbers on my P-P ticket (30 and 41) and it just so happened that another one of the numbers that was drawn was 47!! If I had only picked “47″ …for those of you who don’t know, “47″ is Pomona’s number…so it would have been so fitting. Another number which was picked was “24″ which I will sometimes pick because it is Shelagh’s number, but I often have to rotate out jersey numbers since I can’t fit everyone on the ticket. I actually had #24 on my SV lottery ticket since it was Mel’s number…see?? So close.

I also finished shipping off the Typhoon Fundraiser shirts. Once again, the post office is my second home. Even the people working there recognize me now.

2) My friend Patti came over to do some “studying” which of course in any world means “no studying” unless you are actually in a class together. We ended up watching this movie called “Smart People” which starred Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker and Ellen Paige, and I must say that I am definitely a fan of Ellen Paige. Dennis Quaid is pretty good at playing a crotchety old man, and Sarah Jessica Parker definitely still stood out in my mind as Carrie Bradshaw, but I got over it after awhile.

3) So on Sunday, I went hiking!! Viv, Mana, Sophia and I headed over to Tilden Park in Berkeley to do some hiking and catching up since we don’t get to see Sophia very often because she lives in LA. The weather was good for hiking since it was a little overcast and the fact that it had rained the night before made the air pretty clean smelling.

As usual, there was food on this hike. Viv baked sage shortbread cookies, brought wasabi soy almonds (delicious) and I packed along some bagel chips.

Here goes another week! Half of my coworkers are in London and our supervisor is in Israel, so there are only 4 of us in the lab downstairs.

Oh, on a semi random note, for those of you who don’t know, I don’t have a TV at my house, so I more often than not use twitter as my source of news, which is how I heard about the whole VMAs fiasco with Taylor Swift and Kanye…and today it told me that Patrick Swayze passed away :-( .

My stocks that have been doing well:

GE, Heartland Payment Systems, VMWare, and even  Jamba has started to look a little better the last week or two ( I got in at $0.90 picking up 800 shares and now its at $1.32 ..maybe it’ll keep going up)
