How do they lay down crosswalk lines?

LIKE THIS!! haha picture was taken this morning on our walk to the office in Portland.
So the guy with the blowtorch is heating up the part where they lay down each white piece of …..something….don’t really know what it’s made of. (After doing some research I believe what they are using is called thermoplastic).
