Failed–for now.
I just attempted, for an hour, to write my second installment of “Cynthia’s Pomona College Interview” but I am giving up for the moment. I was trying to answer the question of “What activities have you most enjoyed outside of the classroom? Why?” . Obviously the answer is/was BASKETBALL, but I felt like the only way to get everything across would be to write a giant novel about how basketball helped me grow during my teenage years. To try to condense it would be unjust. In a nutshell, it was the most stable thing in my life that I could trust to be there when things were changing. It showed me how trusting your team and working together can make a mediocre team great. I had basketball families all throughout high school, and those friendships are stronger than any other ones that I have. I honestly typed up nearly 2 full answers, and then deleted them because I didn’t feel like I was going about it the right way.
I really wish I could remember what I said to my interviewer when I was interviewed and asked this question. I’m pretty sure I talked about basketball for most of it and for the other part of my answer I probably talked about how I didn’t join any clubs at school because I hated how many club officers were doing it to put it on their college applications and were failing in their duties in running the club because they had too much on their plates.
Because I am reminiscing, here are some old high school basketball pics that I dug up….
