How to save your iPhone's battery

October 11th, 2009 seetee No comments

TWO WORDS:

AIRPLANE MODE

You can still use your alarm and your phone as a clock and run apps that don’t require the internet. Could be a good idea at nighttime while you are asleep.

I’ve been in Japan for five days now, and haven’t had to charge my phone yet. Granted, I’ve had it on airplane mode since I got off the plane, but I only had half a battery when we landed…so my phone still being alive is pretty sweet.

Just an FYI in case you hate your iPhone battery life like I do.

Farmers in England are required by law to provide their pigs with toys

I downloaded a free app called Cool Facts for my phone last night, and it actually has indeed been providing me with some down right “cool facts.”

Of course, I haven’t gone through and checked to see how legitimate each fact is, but I guess I’m just going to trust it.

Here are 20 good ones:

  1. Even a small amount of alcohol placed on a scorpion will make it go crazy and sting itself to death.
  2. Frozen lobsters can come back to life when thawed.
  3. Cleopatra wasn’t Egyptian; she was Greek.
  4. Babies start dreaming even before they’re born
  5. More boys than girls are born during the day; more girls are born at night.
  6. Fingernails grow fastest on the hand you favor.
  7. Originally Jack-O-Lanterns were made from turnips.
  8. Each year, the average family uses about 18,000 gallons of water just to do its laundry.
  9. $25 million is spent on lap dances in Las Vegas every year.
  10. Apples are more efficient than caffiene in keeping people awake in the mornings.
  11. The average person spends three years of his or her life on a toilet.
  12. In 1980, a Las Vegas hospital suspended workers for betting on when patients would die.
  13. Babies are born without knee caps.
  14. The Mona Lisa has no eyebrows. It was the fashion in Renaissance Florence to shave them off.
  15. All polar bears are left handed (WHAT??)
  16. Everytime you lick a stamp, you’re consuming 1/10 of a calorie.
  17. The Yo-Yo originated as a weapon in the Philippine Islands during the sixteenth century.
  18. The ‘L.L’ in L.L. Bean stands for ‘Leon Leonwood’.
  19. The only 15 letter word that can be spelled without repeating a letter is “uncopyrightable”.
  20. From the age of thirty, humans gradually begin to shrink in size.

In the Silicon Valley, we grow up geeky

June 28th, 2009 seetee No comments

That is, as tech geeks.

I recently upgraded my iPhone from the 4GB first generation phone, to the new 3GS third generation phone.

I thought that it was time to leap to the 3rd generation since I was charging my phone every other day, had huge cracks on my screen, it was taking me at least 5-10 seconds to load the camera, and no gps.

To put it briefly, I am more than satisfied. Everything loads super fast, the new video camera works smoothly (VIDEO!! WOOHOO!) and The GPS function along with the compass function is great, especially since it usually takes me two or three tries to figure out what direction I’m heading on a map. They’re also adding mutimedia messaging where you can send picture and video through your phone in a few months.

People always ask me if I think my iPhone is worth it, and I always say yes. For one, I’m on a family plan so my voice plan is cheaper (we share 700 min between 5 lines..but have rollover and free mobile to mobile between att customers so 700 is more than plenty) and data ends up being $30 for unlimited email/internet usage, and $5 for 200 text messages.

In many ways I’m being environmentally friendly with my iPhone because I have definitely cut down on the amount of paper that I use to write stuff down. No more printing maps or getting lost, or wasting time to figure out where the nearest Target is. It’s also nice to be able to check traffic on my phone to see whether or not the traffic jam is going to last another mile or another 10 miles.

Anyway, not to sound like a spokesperson for Apple, I just had to gush a little bit about it because there are people who get excited about concerts, excited about clothes shopping, I get excited..almost giddy in fact, about tech stuff.

For those of you who own iPhones, Tiffany made me download this game on my phone called “The Moron Test” and by golly it is the most addicting brain teasing game ever.

I also believe that I have the best iPhone case out there for the price that I got it for. My coworker Thi had one for her iPhone 3G and I loved it. I got my iFrogz Luxe case on eBay for $13.99 and I absolutely love it. The retail listing price says $29.99 but you can definitely get it cheaper.

The best thing about this case is that it is made of a semi hard rubber which has a smooth velvety feel to it and doesn’t stick to your hand like other silicone cases. It also doesn’t add too much bulk to the phone which allows it to still be sleek and fit easily into your pocket. It also comes with a screen protector.
